No one should feel safe sitting on the board of directors of a slaughterhouse! Hunters should worry about being hunted! Trappers should worry about being caught in bear traps! Anyone in an animal exploiting business should be looking over their shoulder! A little too “direct action” for your taste? Then you should be part of the political approach! Many animal people are not going to the voting booth for the animals, but for other issues. Taxes. Immigration. Guns. Gays, etc. If those issues are more important to you than the animals, fine. But if in your real life you value animals more than esoteric policy issues, it’s time to prioritize your vote! Conservative politicians are against all we do as animal activists, environmentalists and consumers. They have opposed every piece of pro-animal legislation we support. From banning puppy mills to restricting hunting to humane conditions for farming. They support raping the environment for the sake of corporate profits, back agriculture, oil and chemical interests over the public’s, they fight climate legislation and support logging, mining and drilling on public lands. Guess which side Conservatives choose? Corporations and their money! And that is because Conservatives actually believe that private interests are more important than public ones. And that’s why they are our enemies!
