No one would argue compellingly that the violence that erupted in Bauchi, Gombe, Katsina, Kaduna and other parts of the north on the weekend of the presidential election in April this year was merely spontaneous. The bloodshed was premeditated and was executed by supporters of the CPC. Buhari’s response to the violence was supremely inappropriate and disappointing, even though he reluctantly and belatedly criticised the violence days after it erupted. Beyond all these, the presidential panel astounded everyone when it observed that Buhari was also a victim of the post-election violence. That must have baffled many people. In one moment the panel described Buhari as an accessory before and after the violence and yet in another moment the same panel described Buhari as a casualty of the violence. The remark appeared designed to confuse the issues. How could someone who was alleged to have contributed to violence be described as a victim of the same violence? There is no valid evidence to uphold that assertion other than what Buhari told the panel during an interactive session. Let us not forget other politicians who made incendiary comments before, during or after the elections. For example, in an interview granted to the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) by Buba Galadima, the national secretary of the CPC on Monday, 18 April 2011, Galadima used provocative language that was clearly intended to stir up the rioting crowd. The interview was broadcast during the peak of the riots. When he was asked whether Buhari should rise to address his supporters so they could end the violence, Galadima turned polemical. He said the rioters were unknown to Buhari and the CPC, even though they chanted Buhari’s name. He said neither Buhari nor the CPC was keen to talk to the rioters because to do so would convey the impression that the CPC leadership knew the perpetrators and therefore was involved in the violence. Galadima also said the rioters had every right to express anger in any way they wished if they felt their votes had been hijacked. Now these same CPC people are all in APC and even more of there kinds can anyone explain why such people should be allowed to preside or govern the affairs of the good citizens of NIGERIA???? Be wise my People
