No question, it is Throwback Thursday, but my friend Carolyn has a story to add that is just priceless, reminding me when I was a kid, you damned near had to kill yourself to justify a Doctors visit ..... Ok, you tell it, Carolyn : This is the machine of nightmares!! My Mom was still washing clothes in one of these beasts when I was in High School...when I was a kid-under 10 years old-I stayed for a week with my Grandmother in Bancroft, Idaho. She was doing the washing in the kitchen-she rolled the beast out and rolled it back onto the porch when she was done. I was just a nosy little kid and watched her put clothing through the wringer over and over again. She left the room and, you guessed it, I put my fingers in the wringer and it sucked my whole arm into its jaws...it wrang out my arm clear up to my shoulder and then it just sat there and wrang some more, ripping off some skin...Needless to say I was screaming like a banshee and my cousin came in to see what the problem was. He saw me getting wrang out and, rather than releasing the rollers, he hit the reverse button and wrang me back out of the beast. I still have a scar on my shoulder where the beast ate a piece of me and a big old lump in my forearm where the rollers actually damaged my muscle...Grandma called my folks, where ever they were, and they communally decided that 1) I would live; 2) that I did not need the emergency room, and 3) there really is no medicine for stupid and curious when housed in the same body...I remember.....
