No surprise here. Just as I said when it came out, Citibike is mostly being used by the 1% - because the $60 annual fee is too much for many people, and a lot of people simply dont have a credit card at all. Oh, and dont forget that, as I pointed out, the combination of 30 minutes between stops or else a huge fine and no stations above 60th Street or in any boros other than the expensive parts of Brooklyn mean that only people who live close to Manhattan could ever use it. Heck, just go to their locator (here: citibikenyc/stations) - the first page that comes up shows ONLY areas where you basically need a six-figure income to live. The article doesnt however answer these other questions Ive had: * How much is Citibank paying to use public land? * Should we really be giving over public land to private enterprises? * Are we really served by funneling even more money to an incredibly rich (and dishonest) bank? * Was there any public discussion of this? Was there competitive bidding for this?
