No surprises here! Unfortunately binocular vision disorders and double vision are common after a stroke or other acquired brain injuries. Luckily, Neuro-optometric rehabilitation and vision therapy can help reduce and or eliminate double vision and improve spatial awareness to reduce the likelihood of a fall, regardless of age. The article implies that a strabismus specialist should see the patient, presumably a ophthalmologist; however, the most these surgeons can offer is surgery for cosmetic alignment and or patching. Patching often further reduces the visual field which makes the patient less safe. Neuro-optometrists have many more tools in their toolbox (so to speak) to treat these cases and have an in depth knowledge of the relationships between vision and balance.
