Noam Chomskys thoughts on this god-awful BBC segment on him: I was surprised by how dumb the segment was. But shouldn’t have been. I’ve often been invited to an interview at BBC when I visit England for talks, and the deterioration in quality since the early ‘80s has been steady, though this was a low point – so far. Glad to hear that they at least are running some things refuting their Party Line, even without understanding it themselves. https://youtube/watch?v=HHucMFKM44Q As ever with BBC coverage, this is patronizing and riddled with a very subtle undercurrent of dogma that the basic assumptions held dear by the political establishment in this country and elsewhere are fundamentally correct, and that people ought to keep away from dangerous radicals like Chomsky. Evan Davis belief that politicians in the UK are trying desperately hard to adjust themselves to changing popular opinion is an incredibly naive description of representative democracy, especially considering the role that the commercial media play in setting the agenda of public opinion, and the fact that the public are being lied to about issues like benefit fraud, immigration, crime and teen pregnancy. A functioning democracy requires that the public are free to make informed decisions. How can we honestly call this a democracy when the public are not aware of whats actually going on? By Cameron Watt Quite honestly that whole opening segment was such a joke, basically three of the biggest ignorant stooges are supposed to be a convincing argument towards people in Britain and the world not being discontent with the system and politics? Really? What a poor try from BBC to distort public opinion, my goodness but not unexpected...pathetic...
