Nocturnal attack claims life of SOG man, leaves four others injured Srinagar: A Special Operation Group man was killed and four including an Inspector sustained injuries after suspected militants cornered a police party at Chotta Bazar near Jamia Masjid in North Kashmir’s apple town Sopore. The incident occurred when SOG party had disembarked from their armoured vehicle to disperse few odd stone-pelters at around 2.15 am. Police sources said that few odd ‘miscreants’ indulged in stone-pleting at Chotta Bazar near Jamia Masjid Sopore. “An SOG party led by Inspector Dilraj in a bid to control the situation parked their armoured vehicle on one side of the road and came down from the vehicle. As soon as they embarked from the vehicle, unidentified gun men hurled a grenade on them which exploded with a big bang. Gun men then sprayed bullets on the police party killing constable Muhammad Sayed Khan (368SPR) a resident of frontier district Kupwara on spot,” a police official said adding that the injured cops including Inspector were shifted to BB Cantonment where they are stable. Police identified the injured cops as Inspector Dilraj Singh (7305NGO), Constable Yousu-ul-Umar (29IRP) from third Battalion, Constable Inayatullah (731AP7) and Constable Imtiyaz (709AP). Eyewitnesses said that soon after the incident large contingent of government forces cordoned off the area, however, no arrest was made. Reports said that barely an hour after the incident scores of youth came on roads and attacked police personnel with stone. During the clashes two persons who reportedly on way to Jamia Masjid to offer Fajar Prayers were injured. Both the injured from Arampora hamlet Mudasir Kaloo and Mudasir Sheik were discharged from the SKIMS and according to doctors the duo are stable. (CNS)
