Nominations and applications for two coveted awards from the Greensburg/Decatur County Chamber of Commerce are currently being accepted. Winners will be announced at the Chamber’s annual banquet planned for Thursday, Nov. 14, 2013. The Small Business Grant is a $1,000 grant that will be awarded to a locally-owned business located in Decatur County. To be considered for the award, the business: • Must be located in Decatur County • Has been in business for at least one (1) year • Has less than 100 employees • Is a member of the Greensburg/Decatur County Chamber of Commerce in good standing Those businesses applying for consideration should describe how the grant will be used to enhance, promote or grow the business. Also, the business should list any local or state organizations of which they are members and the business involvement and participation in the community. Forms are available at greensburgchamber or by stopping by the chamber office, 125 N. Broadway St., in downtown Greensburg. Deadline for submitting the application is 4 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2013. The Greensburg/Decatur County Chamber of Commerce is also accepting nominations for the Entrepreneur of the Year Award. The nomination form is also available on the chamber website or at the office. The purpose of the award is to promote the development of business owners and operators. The recipient of the Entrepreneur of the Year Award will be recognized and applauded by the entire business community. The for-profit business must operate in Decatur County. Any type of for-profit business is eligible including ongoing seasonal businesses. The business must be in operation for at least two (2) years and the candidate must have a client/customer base of three (3) or more. Eligible persons must be at least 18 years of age as of Oct. 1 of the current year and nominees must either be currently attending high school, graduated high school or received a minimum of a GED. The nominee should provide three (3) references. One from a client is preferred: two may be from a parent/guardian, principal/Dean, or friend. Nominees will be judged on the same criteria: • Basic eligibility requirements • Operating success • Involvement in the community • Entrepreneurial innovation • Business and community partnerships • Utilization of technology The judges also take into consideration such factors as the entrepreneur’s age when the business was started and any unique problems that had to be overcome. Judges will look for growth and sustainability of the business. The winner is chosen by a committee for the Chamber of Commerce Annual Meeting. Anyone may nominate a business for the Entrepreneur of the Year Award including individuals who want to nominate themselves for the award.
