None of the men at the table understood why Jesus said this to Judas. Judas was the one that kept the money box {for the group}. So some of the followers thought that Jesus meant for Judas to go and buy some things they needed for the feast. Or they thought that Jesus wanted Judas to go give something to the poor people. Judas accepted the bread Jesus gave him. Then Judas went out. It was night. — John 13:28-30 Thought: Jesus had warned that night was coming. He knew he was to battle the forces of darkness on their home turf in the world of darkness. From this point forward, the powers of darkness will try to assert themselves and destroy Jesus, the one whom God sent to be Savior. As night descends, war begins. In the subsequent events of Jesus ministry, we will see the battle of all that is good against all that is bad. But what are we to learn from this? There are many lessons. Lets focus on just two of them today. First, Jesus loves us enough to go face to face with darkness, evil, Satan, and the demons; and second, all it takes for Satan to bring great hardship on the people of God is for just one of them to sell out the Savior. The first of these lessons offers great comfort and grace. The other, however, should make us all pause and examine our hearts!
