~Norma Hashim, The Editor of The Prisoners Diaries~ Until I read the interviews with the freed prisoners which were initiated by Yasser AlBanna in 2012 , I had not given a thought about Palestinian prisoners. After all, this Zionist policy of imprisonment only affected Palestinians, and indeed almost every Palestinian family has had a family member imprisoned, which at the time was not discussed widely outside Palestine. The idea of prisoners as mere terrorists was widely promoted by the Western press, and would persist if not for the fantastic work by activists like Addameer Prisoner Support and Human Rights Association and Defence for Children International Palestine. The interviews have the effect of humanising the prisoners, and making you understand that these were courageous people who have sacrificed their freedom, their lives, their happiness, for the love of their land, and their people. That is why The Prisoners Diaries is important to me. As Saed Mousa told me, every palestinian prisoner can write a book about his/ her experience. Maybe they all should. May Palestine and the prisoners be free one day, and the Palestinians from the diaspora have the right to return home.
