Normally, during this time of an election year, I will merely encourage friends and neighbors to get out and vote. This year I would like to make a special plea for all my friends, neighbors and family. I’m of the opinion that it is extremely important for the state of Utah to be represented by the most conservative candidates. Neither of our senators is up for re-election this cycle and three of our representatives will most likely win their contests. The one race I am most concerned about is our Fourth Congressional District. A few months ago Mia Love held a very comfortable lead but, lately, the Democrat has cut deeply into that lead making the race a virtual dead heat. Doug Owens has done this with obfuscation, half-truths and the ever famous Democrat campaign tactic of identifying a problem that the electorate cares deeply about, implying that he has the solution but never actual saying what he would do to rectify the problem (sound bite campaigning). His biggest obfuscation comes in saying that Ms. Love wants to get rid of the Department of Education (true) and that this will hurt Utah children (false) without ever telling us how that will hurt Utah. Frankly, if you are not in favor of getting rid of the United States Department of Education (as well as a number of other agencies) you haven’t been paying attention to has happened to education in this country under federal auspices. One of Mr. Owens favorite approaches is announcing that he is a lifelong Utah resident and shares our values (a clear Obama hope and change tactic). I have a problem with his implication. Utah values are diametrically opposed to the platform planks of the Democrat/Progressive socialist agenda. My request is this, if you live in Utah’s Fourth Congressional District or have friends, family or acquaintances that do and think this country is in dire need of a return to Constitutional principles, the rule of law and Judeo/Christian mores, make sure they are getting to the polls on Tuesday and casting their ballot for Mia Love. Mia is committed to overturning ObamaCare, strengthening our military, restoring our standing in the world and, in general, undoing the damage of the last six years.
