North China suffers major drought In north #China, severe #drought has caused major disruption in life and work. The dry spell has also taken a toll on local #agriculture. In multiple provinces authorities are taking measures to ease the pain. #Shaanxi In Shangnan Country, of Shaanxi Province, residents say tap water has been suspended for over a month in the town. And the water they get is delivered through water trucks to their homes. The local government deployed 30 trucks each day to get water from a river 20 km away, but if the rain continues to hold out, this system will become increasingly difficult to maintain. #Henan In Pingdingshan, Henan Province, locals are going through their worst drought in 30 years. 21 local reservoirs for agricultural irrigation have dried up, and that is beginning to threaten agricultural output. One local farmer’s wife has even begun insisting that showers be skipped to preserves water for corn fields. Provincial authority has started an emergency response, digging some 5000 motor-pumped wells to irrigate the fields. Watch the following video for more.
