North Etowah County Smith Institute Area Recovery Effort (Updated Thursday 5/1/14) If you would like to assist with the ongoing cleanup effort in the Smith Institute and surrounding area of northern Etowah County please report to the Volunteer Registration Center located at Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church located at 5850 Sardis Road, Boaz during the following hours. Thursday May 1st until 4:00pm. Friday May 2nd from 8:00am to 4:00pm. Saturday May 3rd form 8am to 4:00pm. Sunday May 4th form 10am to 4:00pm. Specific request: Operators who can bring heavy equipment including back hoes etc… Report to the Volunteer Registration Center at Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church located at 5850 Sardis Road, Boaz. Non perishable food donations, water, Gatorade, batteries, toiletries (toothbrushes, tooth paste, soap, shampoo, deodorant etc…) gloves, large black plastic yard size trash bags… take to the “Future Home Of The Free Life Church” which is the large tan metal building on Hwy 431 in Boaz across from the Sand Mountain Twin Drive In. Persons with organizational, clerical, and social media skills to work at the Volunteer Registration Center. Also persons who can assist with traffic control and serve as parking lot attendants Saturday or Sunday at the Volunteer Registration Center… Call (256) 546-4357 Thursday or Friday 8am to 4:30. Monetary Donations: Monetary donations may be made thru United Way Of Etowah County (256) 547-2581 or American Red Cross of Etowah County (256) 547-8667. (Needed Thursday Afternoon/Evening at the Volunteer Registration Center). Donations of Sweet & Un-Sweet tea in sealed gallon jugs. Chicken Fingers(already cooked) with sauce. Cokes, Diet Cokes, Dr. Pepper Ice in bags. Deliver these items directly to the Volunteer Registration Center located at Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church located at 5850 Sardis Road, Boaz.
