North Shore Animal League America An unknown illness has caused the deaths of four dogs in the state of Ohio. The current and unconfirmed suspect is Canine Circovirus. A new virus that appeared in 2012 in California with symptoms that include vomiting, bloody diarrhea, weight loss, neurological problems and lethargy. The good news is that not all the dogs infected with disease died. Many had the illness and were treated successfully. Some dogs seemed to be healthier, even with the virus, suggesting many already have some sort of immunity. This is not an epidemic or a widespread phenomenon that should cause panic. Collectively, those of us with canine friends must be aware and on the lookout for the symptoms. Especially if you live in the Akron or Cincinnati area. Though it is a zoonotic disease, which means that it made the leap from infecting pigs to dogs, it poses no dangers to humans or felines. livescience/39537-disease-killing-ohio-dogs-circovirus.html
