Northern Zone Volleyball League, Saturday 5th July Harbour Raiders women, and Mauao men sealed the Northern Zone 2014 Championship titles with double-header wins on the final day of the Northern Zone Volleyball Leagues 1st Division in Hamilton on Saturday. Mauao finished the season unbeaten, despite three close five-set matches during the season, while Raiders women dropped only one game, to Hamilton, earlier in the competition. 2013 National champions, Tauranga women, were runners up, while Mauao and Hamilton rounded out the important Top 4, given themselves automatic positions in the Club Nationals 1st Division in August. On the Mens side of the draw, 2013 National Championship runners-up Harbour Raiders filled the same position in the League, while Manukau sides Playaz and South Auckland rounded out the Top 4, the latter narrowly heading off former Champions Sparta. The League moves onto a Top 4 shootout over the next month, along with cut-throat Qualifying Leagues for the final National Championship positions for three mens and two womens teams.
