And it was a solid one. Over 62,500 votes were cast and this week’s winner is… Ohio National Guard JJH Ohio Boys BKB Team of the Year Winner: Norwalk Ranked No. 3 in the final National Guard JJH D-II Power Poll, Norwalk capped a historic season by winning its first boys basketball state title with a 65-58 victory over defending state champion Columbus Watterson. In addition to the state title, the Truckers put together the eighth longest regular season win streak in state history (57 games) before Ontario snapped it with a 63-61 win on Jan. 29. Norwalk, however, extracted revenge in the season finale, beating Ontario 69-47 to win a share of its fourth straight Northern Ohio League title. Before this current title run, the Truckers last basketball league championship had come in 1962. Senior first cousins Jeff Thomas (Georgia State) and Ben Haraway (Malone) have been instrumental in the win streak and recent program success. Votes: 27,741 d2nw346 Runner-Up: Tri-Village The Patriots improved to 42-1 in the regular season the last two years and defended their Cross County Conference title. Finished No. 2 in final AP D-IV State Poll and No. 4 in final National Guard JJH D-IV Power Poll. Big wins include Troy Christian, Dayton Northridge, Miami East, Bethel, New Bremen and Stivers. Tri-Village capped its season by winning its first regional title since 1991 and reaching the state semifinals. Votes: 20,357 Third Place: Russia The Raiders claimed their seventh Shelby County League title in head coach Paul Bermigan’s 28-year reign with a 68-59 OT win over Houston. Russia, which was once 1-2 in the league standings, won nine straight SCL games to claim the crown. During the season the Raiders also delivered Bermigan’s career win No. 400 and a Piqua Holiday Tournament title. Russia wrapped its season by winning a D-IV district title and advancing to the regional semifinals. Votes: 7,036 FINAL VOTING NUMBERS (1-10/11-19)
