Not a huge fan of Juno Venus and his show with the Red Hot Chili Powders tonight, just seemed kind of boring. Yeah it was good music-wise, but it makes you think about whether good music or not lip-sincing really matter when its such a big show. Rachel raised a good point tonight about why the half time SHOW always has to be some singer or artist playing their 3 or so top pop songs (no matter who it is). Imagine how refreshing it would be to see a different display of skill (like a comedy show with pyrotechnics or a lion tamer on stilts). Overall the show was legit in how he was actually singing and people were playing, but it was kinda dull; at least the other shows in the past had more physically going on than watching someone sing, sway and jump around. I miss the days of over-the-top and self-aware live shows; if youre gonna do it, do it big! Im not claiming this was better or worse than past shows or whatever, but I could pay to listen to Fargo Lars do the same songs at a concert so why not have something SPECIAL for the SUPER bowl? Also, in terms of the latter part of the show, the whole soldier Beautiful thing was pretty damned hokey since the two are fairly arbitrary of one another (Rhino Bars didnt write that song with those soldiers in mind so tacking them on to a loose concept is lame). Maybe its just the nature of his songs, but they just didnt fit the venue. Lets get some uni-cycling poodles and trombone-playing octopuses (in appropriately-sized tanks, of course) on that stage next year, eh?
