Not all illnesses are visible, not all disabilities are obvious. Not everyone who has a hard time working or functioning is lazy or unmotivated or making excuses why they are having a hard time doing normal things.... Just my thought for today. Well, for anyone who is aware of all my medical issues I have been having lately, I just got through with a 2 day day and night sleep study to see how my sleeping patterns are contributing to my bouts of uncontrollable exhaustion and migraines and inability to stay awake during the daytime. People who know me well know I can fall asleep anywhere, any time within seconds, and it is due to a combination of Narcolepsy and other sleeping disorders. I have been falling asleep while on the computer, on the phone, even in parking lots of stores and on the side of the road after parking a car even in this cold weather. This has been ongoing for many years, and has progressively gotten worse over the years to the point I can barely function in a work environment or even be able to drive. The preliminary results from the study show I have a sleeping disorder so severe that my oxygen levels bottom out as soon as I fall asleep and drop below 50% almost immediately..... that is as low as they measure, so it may even be lower than that. They consider levels below 92 as being dangerous, and mine were among the lowest the sleep study department had ever seen. Oxygen levels affect everything from high blood pressure, heart problems, edema, and daytime alertness levels and can cause migraines, strokes, heart attacks and death. I dont have the complete results back yet, but due to the severity of my disorder and how potentially life threatening my condition is, I now have a machine that I qualified for on an immediate basis due to the severity of my disorder. My insurance did not cover it - and it is a machine that is over 3000.00 not including tubing, masks and filters.... BUT due to the fact it is a life threatening condition, and my diagnosis was so severe, somewhere, somehow the technician found a machine within 6 hours for me, and all the supplies that go with it and gave it to me free of charge. I cant imagine how she pulled that off, I have no idea what I would have done without her assistance. Hopefully this machine will help me and will make me feel a little more human, and give me some energy (finally) as I have been at a spot of being barely functional for some time now. I can barely work, barely get things done around the house, my days consist of just trying to stay awake to get through my day. I should know the complete results soon regarding my test.. and if this can cure me of both my migraines and falling asleep constantly during the day and at work, then maybe I can be somewhat normal again.....
