Not all who heard the testimony of John the Baptist and saw the - TopicsExpress

Not all who heard the testimony of John the Baptist and saw the miracles of Jesus were willing to accept good news of salvation in Christ. Instead they imprisoned John and be headed him. Now when John, while imprisoned, heard of the works of Christ, he sent word by his disciples (Matthew 11:2 NASB) He sent and had John beheaded in the prison. (Matthew 14:10 NASB) The leaders of the Jewish community who were well read in scriptures, took offense at Jesus and plotted to kill Him. And they took offense at Him. But Jesus said to them, "A prophet is not without honor except in his hometown and in his own household." (Matthew 13:57 NASB) Jesus said that if the same miracles were performed in Gentiles cities like Tyre, Sidon, Sodom and Gomorrah, they would have repented. "Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the miracles had occurred in Tyre and Sidon which occurred in you, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes. And you, Capernaum, will not be exalted to heaven, will you? You will descend to Hades; for if the miracles had occurred in Sodom which occurred in you, it would have remained to this day. (Matthew 11:21, 23 NASB) In evangelism we need to remember that miracles and healing do not guarantee in genuine repentance . We need to work in partnership with the Holy Spirit who alone can convict a man of his sins. But I tell you the truth, it is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I go, I will send Him to you. And He, when He comes, will convict the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment; (John 16:7, 8 NASB) Solomon asked nothing of God except for wisdom to govern Israel. Likewise we should asked God for nothing except for the salvation of our family and friends. Let us indeed learn to store up treasure in heaven. "Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys, and where thieves do not break in or steal; for where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. (Matthew 6:19-21 NASB)
