Not by Works (Part 5) Author: Creflo Dollar Summary Through the finished works of Jesus, we are sons and daughters of God. We are no longer servants (or slaves) to the Law. We don’t need the Law to tutor us because we have the Holy Spirit within us to guide us. When we know who we are in Christ, we can partake of the inheritance that was bestowed upon us when Jesus sacrificed His life. “For the promise, that he should be the heir of the world, was not to Abraham, or to his seed, through the law, but through the righteousness of faith. For if they which are of the law be heirs, faith is made void, and the promise made of none effect” (Romans 4:13, 14).If we try to fulfill the Law, we are denying the inheritance Jesus came to give us. We cannot take part in our inheritance under the Law.We cannot fulfill the Law, for if we break one of the commandments, we’ve broken them all.The Law makes us sin conscious, which causes us to believe that God is angry with us (Romans 4:15).God’s love is evident through the finished works of Jesus. Meditating on His love for us helps us to acknowledge that we have been made right with Him.His love made us righteous, and because we are righteous, no weapon formed against us shall prosper.Jesus was born under the Law. However, He came to redeem those under the Law. Therefore, it is foolish to go back to the Law when we have been redeemed from it (Galatians 4:1-22, AMP, New Living Translation). Through the finished works of Jesus, we are adopted sons and daughters of God. We have a new way of life and a new identity.Paul admonished the Galatians for returning to the Law: “But now, after ye have known God, or rather are known of God, how turn ye again to the weak and beggarly elements, whereunto ye desire again to be in bondage?” (Galatians 4:9).As Christians, we are no longer slaves to the Law; we are guided by the Holy Spirit within us (Galatians 4:1, 7).We are heirs of the world; we can partake of our inheritance through our faith in Jesus Christ. Otherwise we don’t qualify.Whatever is earned is not grace; grace is unmerited favor (Galatians 4:10, New LivingTranslation). “For it is written, that Abraham had two sons, the one by a bondmaid, the other by a freewoman”(Galatians 4:22).The allegory of Abraham’s two sons: one was born by relying on self and the other was born by relying on supernatural means. Likewise, we receive the promise, not by our works but through our faith in Jesus Christ. Scripture References Romans 4:13-15 Galatians 4:1-22, AMP
