Not long ago we lost wonderful young man named Andrew Palmer on the Dutch Creek fire. Through every loss we suffer, we strive to learn from and improve as we move forward in our fight. After losing Andy we realized that there was a need to improve our ability to respond to remote incidents on the fire line. It is in his memory that we are diligent in this effort. Leaders on the line are constantly evaluating the location of firefighters and thinking of the worst case scenario, so that they are prepared for anything. Always thinking... If a firefighter falls here... How can we extract and treat them? We now have something called the Dutch Creek Protocol that assists us in ensuring we have identified medivac sites through out the incident for swift response to any scenario. Not a day goes by that we forget those we have lost. Lessons learned from each event are critical to a safer future.
