Not sure if Andy Rooney actually wrote this or not but there is some definite truth mixed in with humor here. However, I will put my spin on this at another level for the women over 50 based on one I’ve lived with for the past 27 years. Women over 50 will not wake you in the middle of the night wanting to know what you are thinking. They will however wake you in the middle of the night with a shove if you’re snoring like a lion. A woman over 50 may not want to watch the game with you but she might vacuum the carpet right between you and the TV so be ready to dodge and weave. Women over 50 are self assured and confident, dignified and know what they want. She would never get into a screaming match with you at an opera or an expensive restaurant because she wouldn’t have to. Her expression would speak much louder than anything she could scream. 50ish women are generous with praise because they know most men’s egos are as fragile as fine China. They have the self assurance to introduce you to their friends without fear of you being attracted to them because they know their friends would never betray them. And if the man has acted like he should, she would trust him anyway. Women over 50 CAN read a man’s mind. Not literally…but your expression, body language and demeanor speak volumes to her. That’s why she has the keys to brighten your day like no other and make your life a complete joy or…a living hell. She is always deserving of the man’s absolute best. But on days when we can’t or don’t give it, she turns it up a notch to put a smile on your face anyway. Women over 50 care far less about your pecs, abs, butt and biceps than they do about the words you speak into their lives, time you devote to them, respect you afford them as a woman, faithfulness you show them as the one and only, courage and tenderness you show as a Father and spiritual leadership you demonstrate under God. They don’t need diamonds and expensive clothing as much as they need a two sentence note from you stating what she means to you. She would rather get a sincere, random text for no reason stating you were thinking of her than anything from an expensive clothing store. She doesn’t need you to be a dynamo in the sack as much as she needs to know that you will always be there to hold her, cherish her and accept her. The wisest man that ever lived was directed by God Himself to say, “A man who finds a wife finds a good thing and obtains favor from God.” To “find” something involves searching and intimates a certain rarity. If a man finds a woman that is wife material, he has found a good thing…a rare thing…a valuable thing and his life is blessed by God because of it. I have seen this principle play out in my life. For me, my only important demographic is for one woman over 50. She gets a little embarrassed when I post these things on Facebook. But, she is my life, I love her and I am proud for the world to know it.
