Not sure if anybody noticed, but I took a sabatical from FB for a couple of weeks. I intended to stay off for the entire month of December, but there are some ministry things I needed to get done, and much of that involves FB, so...Im back! I was thinking after logging back in this morning what I have learned this past two weeks. I realized that yes, I can do without Facebook, and I am not addicted to it in a normal sense. I really didnt miss it at all. I have realized though that I have come to rely on it for certain things, it can be a good tool. Good: FB is good for keeping in touch with people who you otherwise would have little or no contact with. Bad: FB keeps you in touch with people who you would otherwise never have contact with. Good: FB can be a form of entertainment if you find yourself bored. Bad: FB can be a form of entertainment if you find yourself bored. Good: People can find you easily if you are on FB. Bad: People can find you easily if you are on FB. Good: Facebook can be a good marketing tool for business, non-profits, and ministry. Bad: Facebook has taken the place of other valuable forms of communication such as email, letters (those things that used to come in our mailbox instead of ads), and the good old phone. Bad: Facebook brings out the ugly in people. People say what is on their mind instead of applying our usual social filters we learned in Kindergarten. Good: FB brings out the real thoughts of some people, it allows us to see who people really are in many cases, the real person behind all of the talk, behind the fakeness, and behind the mask. That can be valuable information if used properly. So its good to be back. I highly suggest a sabatical from FB for at least a period of time. I have a little different perspective now. Life is way too short for the evil things of this world, and Jesus has a much better plan to save the world through love, not negativity and hate. I am even more certain of that than ever. If you feel personal attacks against people of different races, nationalities, religions, social beliefs, etc. are ok, then we will never agree. So, Merry Christmas everyone!
