At age 15 , the American Jack Andraka created a test that detects cancer of the pancreas and is 26,000 times cheaper , 168 times faster and 400 times more sensitive than the currently used . It is one of the most lethal of all cancers and killed people close to Jack himself , who since then has not tired of searching the search for an effective method of prevention. With that , he won in May 2012 International Fair of Science and Engineering from Intel, the worlds largest prize for pre -university students , taking home $ 100,000 . The test set up for the boy is simple and cheap and makes the diagnosis of three types of cancer, including pancreatic ( ovary and lung are the other two ) . The cost is three cents and the result arrives in less than 5 minutes. The sensor created by Jack urine and blood tests , and if the result is positive for a certain protein , it is because the patient is developing cancer. The paper strip changes as the amount of this protein in the blood which, according to the brilliant teenager, may detect the disease before it she invade the patients body.
