Notary Question of the Day: Can a Notary Public perform work-related notarizations in other states? Answer: No. A Notary Public can only notarize within the boundaries of the state or jurisdiction in which theyre commissioned. For example, as you are located in Illinois, you could not notarize for a signer located in Wisconsin; however, it is perfectly okay for a customer to cross the border from Wisconsin into Illinois and have you perform a notarization. Likewise, your employee in Alabama cannot perform notarizations while in Texas, even if theyre for business purposes. They can only notarize within the boundaries of Alabama, where they are commissioned. Source: National Notary Association
