Note the events coming before the sounding of alarm, particularly the layoffs and the complaints from the actors, business and other there with connected to the private military and security. Perhaps if there was real, concerted structural reform there would not be concerns over the threat to security that the sequestration implies for the defense budget. Finally, something else to ponder is the generational gap in the reform efforts and the reaction to sequestration. Where do retirees go when their careers in the government military and security end? With the generational gap and the informational and technological changes impacting policy changes, we need to question their role in the debates to the threat to security that sequestration poses to defense and the security sectors.
