Notes On Life: Early one morning my doorbell rang. Normally I do - TopicsExpress

Notes On Life: Early one morning my doorbell rang. Normally I do not answer the bell until I know who is on the other side of the door, but I did not do normal that morning. I opened the door, and there on my front porch were two smiling women, one in her mid life years and the other much younger, probably in her twenties. I instantly knew why they were on my porch. I was a potential convert to their religion. I wanted to escape what was coming, but being the nice person I am I smiled back. After pleasant introductions, conversation about the fall weather, and my front porch decor they got down to the business of converting me, at least the older one did. The young girl said nary a word. When she asked me what I thought about God I gave my testimony of being a Christian since age 15. The older woman then told me that there was much more to know, and she would like to help me in this area. I kindly told her that God and I conversed every day and that I had been getting to know him before she was even born. I let her know that God had worked miracles in my life, that God talked back to me, and that God and His power were not abstract theology to me. She then tried another tactic. She tried to use the Bible as her defense. Poor thing did not know that I am Bible teacher and been studying the Bible for years. For every verse she had I had my own. Finally, she said that she wanted to help me find the answers to the grand issues of life. I told her that is what I did every weekend in ministry. With no other things to try she gave up. We parted company with friendly goodbyes. I pray those two find what God has for their lives. But I came away from this encounter with the full assurance that I KNOW whom I have believed, and I am PERSUADED that He will keep that which I have committed unto that day. Knowledge and persuasion are two powerful forces in my life. On this day when some stranger rang my bell I knew Whom, and I was persuaded about the What of my faith. Check up on your knowledge and persuasion. Be ready to answer from a sound faith of knowledge and persuasion. You never know who will ring your doorbell.
