Nothing against any religious sect, this article is to attract the attention to political manipulation, and the dangers of using misnomers! Christian Assyrians, Chaldeans, & Syriacs should be aware of the consequence of calling themselves as Christian Kurds, because that could be dangerous to their lives! Since they would be taking the risk of getting killed as a Murtaddin (i.e. deserters of Islam)! Why so? Because Christian Kurds are a new movement or sect, created by western Evangelists who came into Kurdistan in the last 10 years and converted some Moslem Kurds to Evangelical Christianity. And being converts from Islam, ISIS considers them as Murtaddin, and Islamic Shari3a is very clear and severe in punishing the Murtaddin (i.e. those who leave Islam), their punishment is death with no other option. On the other hand, Assyrian, and Syriac Christians belong to ancient churches that existed long before the arrival of Islam to the region. Chaldean Christians on the other hand, although a 500 year old sect, yet they were converts from earlier Christian, in other words none of the ancient Christians are Murtaddin. Hence ISIS looks at them as Ahl Al-Kitab or Zimmiyyen (Zimmites). And according to Shari3a, they would be asked to leave, or pay Jizya and stay, and staying is conditional to paying jizya, and only if they stay and refuse to pay the Jizya then they would face death, the other option is to convert to Islam. As you see ISIS offers a window of survival to Ancient Christians (people whose ancestors were Christians), but that window is closed for modern Kurdish Christians who are converts from Islam. So any ancient Christian using the name Kurdish Christian, would be risking his life because he could be mistaken as being a Murtad, and in that case if ISIS takes over, he would face death. Recently we have seen some so called new Christian organization in northern Iraq operating under shady Christian names claiming to defend Christian rights or speak on their behalf. Watch out from those operating under the name of Kurdish Christians, because they carry the risk of being considered as Murtaddin by ISIS. And if ISIS takes over, the consequences will be very bad! Nothing personal against Evangelical Christians or Kurdish Christians, but let’s make it very clear that we are different, just stay away from Ancient Christians, they have enough problems of their own, and they are not in need of any new problems! Nevertheless may God help, enlighten, and protect every decent human being!
