Notice, once, under the Old Covenant, salvation was by works of the law. Now, under the New Covenant, salvation is by faith in Christ alone. Since salvation is now by New Covenant faith in Christ alone, salvation is no longer by Old Covenant works of the law. Should Old Covenant works of the law compromise salvation under New Covenant faith in Christ alone, salvation would no longer be according to New Covenant faith in Christ alone and, therefore, no longer salvation at all, since salvation is still under New Covenant faith in Christ alone.
