Nov. 75 Star Wars... When I started working with George and Gary, - TopicsExpress

Nov. 75 Star Wars... When I started working with George and Gary, there was one other person who was working -- Jim Nelson. Jim passed away a couple of months ago, and his family paid for his obituary to be printed in the LA Times. The fact it was a paid obit flew by me until yesterday, when I mentioned Jim Nelson as being one of the key people involved in Star Wars. Today, rereading Steve York post -- yes, guys, I read what you post -- what really hit me is the fact Jim Nelsons family had to pay to have his obit published, giving him credit for starting ILM... George and Gary put their own money up to start ILM. ILM was developing new technology. Jim was the guy in charge of handling ILM. Star Wars had two offices -- the ILM offfices, which Gary generally worked out of, and George and Garys old American Grafitti offices at Universal, where I worked. Jim took the empty building, peopled it, and got ILM started. When I googled Jim looking for a picture of him, found this old video of ILM. Hes not in much, but from the video, you can see what the building was like, and get a sense of what was happening. vimeo/5494280
