November 18, 2013. I have just concluded my Safety Management System and the ISM Code Training with three officers for our Container ships - Master/Captain, Chief Engineer, and 2nd Engineer... In our sharing over lunch, we concluded that the Tragedy in the Visayas was caused by IGNORANCE. First, people did not know what a STORM SURGE is. Second, not knowing what a STORM SURGE is, people simply braced themselves for the typhoon. It is not the typhoon that caused the catastrophe, it is the tidal wave that swallowed everything in its path. Third, not knowing what a STORM SURGE is, people were complacent, otherwise, knowing it is a tidal wave or a series of tidal waves, all would have run for their lives away from the coast....STORM SURGE IS TIDAL WAVE, that can come as high as 1000ft. at 28 ft, or about about 3 storeys high, coastal areas were flattened, imagine if waves 100 ft high or 10 storeys high swept the lands? NO ONE WILL SURVIVE...exaggerated, but it is not, many have smelled the stench of DEATH...Does Aquino or Roxas know that a Storm Surge is Tidal wave caused by typhoons or Hurricanes? NO, because NDRRMC failed to warn people to go up the mountains to be saved... newscasters know.... I can say, No, they dont because NOT ONE HAS DESCRIBED accurately what a STORM SURGE is capable of doing.... IT CAN MOVE THE WORLD to OFFER HUMANITARIAN HELP, ASAP....
