November 19 When the vessel that he made of the clay was marred in the hand of the potter, he made it again another vessel, as seemed good to the potter to make it. Jeremiah 18:4 The Potters original design became marred by something unresponsive in the clay. Yes marred, but not destroyed, for He made it again another vessel. It is wonderful what God can still do, provided always we are prepared for His adjustments. Have we failed Him somewhere? Then it were folly to persist in what he has abandoned, falsely imagining He is compelled to go on with us in it. Has he perchance changed His mind? Am I now ordained to be another vessel? If so it were death to strive to be the former one. Cannot I do with you as this potter? says the Lord. We cannot play with His will. Though our loving Father, He is nevertheless sovereign in His ways. Our attitude should be; Keep me near you, fearing you, always ready for your best! I find great personal comfort in the counsel of Peter: Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time. (1 Peter 5:6).
