November 20, 2014 The City of Fernandina Beach has a seasonal part-time (28 hours) opening for a: Title: Maintenance Assistant Department: Maintenance – Streets and Parks FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Reports to: Maintenance Manager Pay Grade: 121 ($9.93 - $15.63) Minimum Qualifications A. Education and Experience: Must possess high school diploma or equivalency diploma. Six months experience in maintenance/grounds-keeping preferred. A comparable amount of training, education, or experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications. B. Certifications: Valid driver’s license required. C. Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills: Skilled in the operation of grounds-keeping and maintenance equipment. Knowledge of the care and proper use of tools, chemicals, and equipment used in maintenance and grounds-keeping. Good interpersonal skills required. Good physical condition and ability and willingness to perform manual tasks required. Ability to work independently with little supervision. General Description Manual work requiring efficient performance of maintenance and grounds-keeping duties. This is an active, physically demanding outdoor job. Essential Functions 1. Mow, weed, fertilize, and police city parks and athletic fields. Perform mowing operations using mowers/tractors. 2. Operate various grounds-keeping and maintenance equipment. 3. Assist in installation and repair irrigation equipment. 4. Prepare athletic fields for sporting events such as baseball, football, soccer, etc. 5. Assist in clean-up activities. 6. Read and interpret manuals to ensure safe and efficient operation of equipment. 7. Comply with OSHA Safety and Health rules 8. Other duties as assigned. Essential Physical Skills Acceptable eyesight, hearing (with/without correction), moderate lifting and carrying (up to 80 lbs.), reaching, pulling, pushing, walking, sitting, standing, kneeling, stooping, climbing, driving, operating equipment.
