November 20th, 2013 Two thirds through November and were still picking and pressing apples. Those clusters of thick-skinned apples that wouldnt budge in October, are now dropping with the bounce of a limb. There sure are some hardy apples growing through these hills and all of them are making it harder for us to put an end to our harvest frenzy. Next years garlic is planted and mulched. And we finally got out the last of our potatoes. It was a tough year to be a potato on our farm. Potatoes have taught us loud and clear that planting more of them doesnt always end in higher yields. All vegetables have made it out of the ground at this point, save the brussel sprouts and kale, who seem to do better enduring nightly frosts in the ground, rather than being held dormant in the cellar. And just this week, we deconstructed our greenhouse from the LaDouceurs backyard at Bowman Road Farm, where we got our start 6 seasons past. Our second Winter pick-up of the season is tomorrow, the 21st of November from 4:30 to 7:30 at the farmhouse garage in Barnard Village. Please forgive us, as time has not permitted installation of the wood stove yet (although there just may be a kerosene heater). The pick-up site is in the garage of the red farmhouse, directly next door to the Universalist Church. Please park in the churchyard or on the grass in front of the farmhouse, and walk in the direction of the driveway to find the garage in the rear. PLEASE DO NOT PARK IN FRONT OF THE FIRE STATION.
