November 3, 1964: Ralph Locker, the mayor of Cleveland, Ohio bans The Rolling Stones following a 17-year-old’s fall from a balcony during the Stones gig at Public Hall. While the teen was not killed, Locker had had enough. “Such groups do not add to the community’s culture or entertainment, he says. The Stones’ ban came less than two months after The Beatles played Public Hall. Their show was stopped after fans rushed the stage and police temporarily halted the concert. The mayhem of that concert also led to a ban on The Beatles performing in Cleveland. Both bands would be back in Cleveland in 1966.
