November 4, 2013 we crossed the Sweetwater River with 30 others to commemorate the original crossing in 1856. In 1856 the temperature was below zero the temperature when we crossed was 17 degrees. In 1856 there was snow and the ice floating in the river was 3-4 inches thick. We didnt have any snow and just had a few skiffs of ice floating in the river. It was very cold when we crossed and I am glad it was 2013 not 1856. Michelle and Scott came from Utah to cross with us. We had a very memorable experience and are glad that we were better able to understand what the pioneers went through when they crossed the river to go up into Martins Cove to find shelter.
