*Novice mechanic question for 1991 940T Wagon (I need some feedback please): I have noticed a small leak in my water pump gasket in the connection from pump to head(some residue seen in pic behind fan pully). Beyond this leak I have also noticed hearing a chirpy noise which sounds like a belt which comes and goes but is difficult to figure where it is coming from. I think this is indication of needing a new water pump but am not sure(i heard noise and leaks are indicators of a failing pump). I have looked and found this is a HEPU pump, so it must be the second one on the car so far(I have not ever replaced it). It looks like a straight forward job and like it might be something I could tackle, but have not done this before so I am a little wary of cracking into it (only thing I have really done work wise on my car is change all the shocks and springs which took time but went well.) I have seen a how to video and have green books so I have some idea/guidance how this job goes. Timing belt was changed about a year and half ago so Im not gonna change that if I do this because it still looks in good condition. So heres my questions: 1. How do I know if the pump is failing?( any other indicators?) 2. Should I change hoses, thermostat, and do coolant flush also? 3. Are there any tricks or pointers I might need to know to make this happen?(Is it really as easy as it looks?) 4. Will this take a slow novice mechanic like me a about a half day? 5. Should I buy a Volvo part? Or maybe another Hepu? 6. What parts are essential beyond the pump, gasket and bolts? (not sure what the studs are for or how to remove them) Thanks. Your help is greatly appreciated. *Links and photos are also appreciated.
