Now, Dr. Otti presented his manifesto here the other day and we all read his 12 point agenda. Also during the interactive section with his representative Mr. K. O. Kalu we were told that a world class financial institution have pledged 100m US dollars toward Abia development under Otti administration. Again Otti says he will run the state as a enterprise for the purpose of maximising our common wealth. In the said manifesto Otti has made a pledge with Abia, so the direction of discuss should have centered on those, but no! Some people are bent on scoring cheap political point by sticking to the non issue of Ottis place of origin. Having read through the Ottis manifesto and haven heard from him and his team at various fora, I would now make a little contribution to some of the issue some people have falsely raised here. Some say Dr. Otti wants to mortgage our future by obtaining a loan of 100m USD. It should be noted that Otti says a pledge has been made to the tune of 100m USD. Financial pledge could be in the form of equity in PPP, direct foreign investments, grants, low interest loans, etc. So it is unfair to assume that it must be a loan, Secondly, some have concluded that running a government as an enterprise entails raising taxes and levies thereby subjecting the people to further hardships. This is also untrue. To the contrary Ottis manifesto present a different view point of elimination of prevailing multiple taxes and levies in the state. In reality what running a government as an enterprise means is the maximisation of stakeholders wealth by the way of profit making and wealth creation. So when Dr. Otti talks about massive industrialization of Abia, raising of solid entrepreneurs, and job creators, he was only highlighting some of the ways to achieving quantum leaps in the development of Abia and in wealth creation. And I think this is highly commendable, being a deviation from the present massive wealth looting going on everywhere. There stakeholders in this regard are all Abians. What Dr, Otti saying from my own understanding is that with him at the him of affairs wealth creation and not wealth looting will be the watch word. Again, a few have said that Dr. Otti did do anything for Abia or Abians during his banking career. Nothing could be more false than that. It was under Dr. Ottis approval and supervision at diamond bank that a whooping 400m USD was invested at the Geometric power plant at ABA. Establishments of diamond bank branches in Abia were approved and facilitated even in communities without any banking presence at all like isi ala ngwa. Also a lot of Abians were employed and Entrepreneurs from Abia supported hugely. Lets put politics aside I think that Otti should be appreciated and celebrated and not falsely accused.
