Now I know below is French Xmas cakes, and believe me when I say - TopicsExpress

Now I know below is French Xmas cakes, and believe me when I say they are scrumdiddlydumcious, but they are not quite the same as British Xmas cakes, you know the ones with the peaked icing made to look like snow, with a bauble and a piece of holly on the top, with a layer of marzipan and gorgeously moist fruit cake. Well feeling and looking a bit smug, I decided to give it a go having not actually made a cake since school days. The cake is looking good, but marzipan is incredibly expensive to buy here so I figured why not have a go.......the marzipan is in the fridge so I can get it n the cake tomorrow, photos will be following. In the meantime has anybody ever tried explaining to a French pharmacist that you want to buy some glycerine, for what I was asked? Of course my icing on the aforementioned cake I explain. At which stage a long conversation ensued with the whole pharmacy about the differences between English and French Xmas, including christmas pudding, which surprisingly most of the people in the pharmacy knew about but had no idea what it was, crackers, now that was a hard one to explain, but after a lot of gallic shrugs, they all though they were a good idea, especially for children! Ah the joys........
