Now Im going to argue the other side. As I -- and others -- have pointed out, the Confederate Party of America, formerly known as the republicans, have created an unholy alliance of wingnuts and fanatics and lunatics, cemented together in post-coital exhaustion by the dried body fluids of hypocrisy, greed, and bigotry, Just about every day we see some bizarre proposal or eyebrow-raising assertion or otherwise irrational behavior of the theocrats, whinge-nuts, and racists who are now driving the Confederate Party. The underlying theme is self-righteousness -- all in service of fear and anger and hatred. Self-righteousness is the behavior of the spoiled brat, I dont care. Im right and Im going to stick my fingers in my ears and shout la-la-la-la-la and paralyze the entire process. It is the behavior of the bully. And what we know about bullies is that they are cowards at heart. When you stand up to them, they crumble and run. Thats why the bullies have to parade around with their guns -- so you are the one whos afraid, so you wont stand up to them. History shows us that people who are terrified can be manipulated. People who are angry can be manipulated. Anyone who has studied the mechanics of propaganda -- particularly that of the Third Reich, but also other pertinent examples -- can see the danger signs. When Bush 43 moved into the White House in 2000, some people I used to know -- but no longer listen to because I couldnt deal with their paranoia -- argued that America was over, that wed never see another free election. And they were insightful enough to point out just how many Dominionists were being appointed to positions of authority in the military. It is not impossible that this nation is on the slippery slope toward a corporate police state. Our media, our free press, have been reined in -- the corporations have bought up the radio and TV stations and newspapers, consolidated them, and emasculated their voices. We dont hear about anything the corporate masters do not want us to hear about. We dont hear about the demonstrations, the protests, the outrages that are perpetrated against us -- instead, we hear about shallow celebrities marrying and divorcing. We hear about distractions instead of news. In the sixties, the media was wild and unfettered -- we had protest songs on the radio, we had demonstrations that were televised on the evening news. We had exposure to protests of all kinds. At the end of the sixties, the billionaires of the confederacy decided they would never let that happen again. Where once there were 300 distributors of periodicals and books, today there are 3. Where once there were thousands of independent radio and TV stations, today 90% of the media is owned by six corporations. Our independent voices had their licenses challenged. They were bought up, taken over, seized. The equal time rule was ended and almost all talk-radio is spewing confederate lies. Today, the last bastion of the free exchange of ideas is the internet -- and the robber barons are trying to put a strangle hold on that as well. If Net Neutrality is ended, we will find it harder to unite in opposition. So, yes -- a technologically-based corporate plutocracy is possible, especially if we the people allow it to happen. Even more dangerous, the guarantees of our Constitution are being whittled away by men who were appointed to the supreme court specifically to do that job. Robert Welch wrote in the Blue Book of the John Birch Society that democracy didnt work, the nation needed a strong leader. (A dictator.) Hitler said the same thing to Germany once. Welch said that the takeover of the govt needed judges in the highest places. Well, if that treasonous prick were still alive, hed be wetting his shorts in glee. Fred Koch funded the Birch Society. His sons, Charles and David, are funding the Confederate Party of America, and make no mistake, they are following the game plan that Welch laid out in his Blue Book and his Black Book, fifty years ago. It was a long-range plan to emasculate the media, take over school boards to steer education down a conservative path, infiltrate the court system with their own believers, and pull down the Constitution. Every election, we like to say that this might be the last chance we have to save the nation ... one of these times, it might be true. There is one way to stop them. Only one way. We get enough people to the polls to vote -- to tell them, Hell, no.
