Now all the Stop Shoppers are secretly taking their last hours of time off, before time begins again, this Falls time of Earth revolution. Extreme activism is staring us in the face this fall. Books and Bees, Libraries and Hives. Monsanto the Devil looms over us. Were nearing the Indiegogo goal and expect to go to Monsanto headquarters in St. Louis. The biggest institutions - religion, corporation, govt, military, media - have given each other permission to take profits all the way to world death. In Northern Ireland and Scotland we found fracking companies poised to inject their toxins. Up on the surface though, the young people were very brave, an intuitive Earth politics forced on modern societies that we have always thought of as remaining closest to Earth cultures. But the Irish and Scots do admit that there is a contradiction here: the poetry and song of the lovely Earth that comes up into their cultures is defeated by the profit-pursuing extraction companies, endorsed by many as the only source of jobs as the North Sea oil ends. This is a recording of the Stop Shopping Choir in the Corn Market of Belfas this month. They wanted us there because it is a depressing inner city mall. Later that day we journeyed to a reservoir above Belfast where their drinking water originates, and is now threatened by fracking well proposals. We wore our bees and sang and prayed - and felt the gratitude and solidarity flowing back toward us. We also saw the bafflement, but in this innocence we sensed the opening to new things. --rev
