Now let me even talk about how selfish older Nigerian Lawyers are. Some of my colleagues earn N40k. Yes! N40k- Modupe Barrister Modupe, shares her frustration and anger being a Nigerian Lawyer, the peanut lawyers collect and her rants aptly explain why people like us who wasted 7 years in all studying Law dont know the road to court Let hear her: Most Nigerian Law firms even the big shots dont have any form of health insurance for staff I know a Law firm (big shot too) that doesnt employ married women & lays women off immediately they get married. Office policy. Now let me even talk about how selfish older Nigerian Lawyers are. Some of my colleagues earn N40k. Yes! N40k Average closing time for the Lawyer is 8pm, some staff even sleep at work. I dont know any Nigerian Law firm that has a staff bus. Nigerian Law firms dont do much for professional/career development (formal training is almost 0). My friend was sacked two weeks ago because she didnt say sir when talking to her boss. He told her the profession is one of respect. As a young Lawyer, you may work 5 years in a place and one day realise that you havent improved. Doing the same thing every day! A senior colleague (25 years at the bar) punches his staff on the reg. Like, he gives them blows. NBA is doing a TERRIBLE job at regulating Legal Practice in Nigeria. Most older Lawyers are just bullies! 40K is a lot . Some Lawyers earn 25k monthly About 30% of Lagos conductors/agberos earn more than some lawyers Most of my colleagues dont have any savings! Enough is enough. Young Nigerian Lawyers time to stand up for yourselves. Arent you tired of these rubbish? People will pay for competence! Build yourself. Personal development is key. Position yourself as a global Lawyer. Look beyond Nigeria So many absurd things going on in legal practice and NBA stays closing its eyes, drinking tea and collecting levies she concluded Well said.
