Now, more than ever, especially in LTC and Skilled Rehab, Nursing - TopicsExpress

Now, more than ever, especially in LTC and Skilled Rehab, Nursing is sitting behind a desk and making sure people can get paid for what they used to get paid for before the Unaffordable Care Act. Its sitting on the phone with insurance companies just to make sure that a discharged patient is going to have the equipment that they need at home because the insurance is not going to cover their stay any longer, and they dont want to pay for the equipment either. All the documentation is geared towards payments. Not to mention, the certain system I work with is inefficient and very time consuming. Do you think the computerized charting that the state is now requiring, is for the benefit of the patient? No. If that was the case, wed have had the system a long time ago. If that was the case, they would know that we nurses need to be out on the floor with our patients, rather than having to rush our assessments and med passes just to run to the computer. And dont forget pharmacy. Call the doctor for a different order because that medication is no longer covered under their plan. This is daily. The changes just keep coming and its all about getting paid or reimbursed. The insurance companies are constantly cutting, while the facilities are trying to find ways around these cuts. What was always a battle is now a war.
