Now, seriously, I know how to use the NHS. In the case of a cancelled appointment without notification. It is all run by secretaries and you have the name of the specialist you were supposed to see, yes? And maybe the department and extension number? Settle down for the long haul with pen and paper to hand and get on the phone, with something crushable to take out your frustration on. Go through the telephone system and talk to the secretary who runs that specialist room - she will be in part time working because the person she works for only works part time in the NHS and they usually prefer mornings. So put on your, oh poor me, I am a sick and bewildered taxpaying British NHS user and I need your help, voice and phone her. By nice, be grateful and flattering, tell her she is a star and performing magnificently in a difficult situation and she will tell you why your appointment was cancelled without telling you and get you a replacement appointment very soon. Make sure she knows you think it is your fault and that you want to understand what you did wrong to lose this much needed appointment, apologise and explain you have searched through your inbox and found no cancellation letters at all. Suggest maybe they have your address not quite correct and it went elsewhere? (That works a treat with the Job Centre too!) These secretaries and receptionists do not like dealing with people who are not lucid and helpful - routinely refusing treatment from autistics! Remember the NHS would be a wonderfully well run and clean place were it not for the patients. You are that patient. Apologise for being a nuisance while crushing whatever with your other hand and biting your tongue about the fact you are paying a small fortune in taxes to be treated this badly. By the time you get through to her you will have drunk your coffee, eaten all the biscuits and smoked three cigarettes, and used 3 hours of your time so you will need and a good stiff drink after. This is possible, I do it every year!
