Now, that the U.S. and Cuba have normalized relations, I am not surprised that NJ authorities are hoping that this new development will lead to the capture of Assata Shukur. Shakur, a former Black Panther, was convicted of murdering a NJ State Trooper back in the 1970s. After being sentenced to prison, Assata Shukur escaped from prison. She eventually resurfaced in Cuba in the 1980s where she has remained after being granted political asylum by Fidel Castro. I read Assatas autobiography about 15 years. When I first heard about the new U.S. and Cuba agreement today, I immediately thought about her and what she must be thinking....
