Now that the counting is done and Team Friese has hung onto a slim but respectable lead, I want to thank everyone for contributing to the enormous effort that this campaign required. We started over one year ago and maintained a laser focus on our goal. With the help of many, we executed an excellent ground campaign and communicated with thousands of voters by canvasing, phone banking, and neighborhood ‘Talk with the Doc’ events. It all started with the core team members (Cheryl, Susan, Paul, me, and Derrick), then quickly grew to become the Team Friese machine with the addition of Devin and Michael. We knocked on doors, gathered signatures, and meticulously verified each one. We put together donor lists. I called many of you and asked for your financial support and so many of you graciously delivered. Our team grew again as the campaign continued with the addition of our core volunteers including Jeannie, Alma, Consuelo, Daniel, Tamar Rala, Morgan, Nancy, Bunny, and Joel, as well as Maricela and the interns. Devin cut turf for many, many canvases. We phone banked. We met voters and asked them to make an informed choice. We held several large well attended events and many house parties in some of your homes. We phone banked, we canvassed, we phone banked; and Susan made us dinner. But most important of all, we had fun. We enjoyed each other and we enjoyed the process. Although the reward (getting elected) is sweet, the real prize was working together for a common goal, getting to know one another, laughing at the frustrations and listening to each other when one of us needed to vent. To me working as part of a cohesive team, focused on a common and worthy goal, creates a bond. A bond of friendship, a bond of mutual respect. I go to Phoenix with fond memories of the campaign and the friends I’ve made. I will represent southern Arizona to the best of my abilities, knowing that my friends and all the hard working people of Southern Arizona deserve and will receive my best efforts as well as my determination and diligence. Much Gratitude, Randy
