Now there is another myth that still gets around: it is a kind of over reliance on the bootstrap philosophy. There are those who still feel that if the Negro is to rise out of poverty, if the Negro is to rise out of the slum conditions, if he is to rise out of discrimination and segregation, he must do it all by himself. And so they say the Negro must lift himself by his own bootstraps. They never stop to realize that no other ethnic group has been a slave on American soil. The people who say this never stop to realize that the nation made the black man’s color a stigma. But beyond this they never stop to realize the debt that they owe a people who were kept in slavery two hundred and forty-four years. ----Martin Luther King, National Cathedral, March 31, 1968 Happy Martin Luther King Day! This year the tribute to Martin Luther King goes in Reparations. Why? Because the evidence seems to be that Martin Luther King wanted reparations, perhaps independence and this is probably why his own society eliminated him. The Status Quo is not at all what Martin Luther King envisioned despite the political worldwide marketing efforts and trompe Loeil efforts which try to fuse the imperial political agenda of Obama and the status quo and the radical socialism of Dr. King. Dr. King would wish for those who have succeeded in this society to use their position to transform America or build a new one of their own. He would want us to be firemen in a burning house rather than merely conforming into a burning house. He would want those who have not succeeded or who cannot succeed in this society to bear in mind what is truly important: To do justice, love mercy, and walk humbly with thy God and to direct their energies toward finding or building a society in which they have value as all other humans beings on earth have value. Presently, the King Children are in litigation with each other over how to dispose of certain parts of his estate: The Bible and the Nobel Prize. This is a tragedy. These symbolize the very essence of his ministry and yet the capitalist realities of this society have led some members to wish to commercialize them in exchange for money. This is Esau selling a part of his birthright to Jacob for a mess of pottage. It is sinful that the richest country in the world watches this unfold without intervening. The point is that the celebration is empty if we sanitize the meaning of Dr. Kings life. It is an empty ritual unless the full meaning of his life is put into practice. He would not follow the Global Capitalist order but would be in complete opposition to it. Bearing that in mind, the truest way to celebrate the life of Dr. King would be to make a 180 degree turn in the opposite direction of American Policy and build a new kind of society. He would wish us to be permanently maladjusted until a new world is established where Peace is the Paradigm, Civil Rights are secure and not sacrificed in the interest of Security, and where Justice and Truth reign supreme. Its a collective crime. It requires collective action to remedy. There is no way around or as Lincoln said: We cannot escape history. https://youtube/watch?v=nUEt5Hv4aAY&list=PLL9eCxlqvp5KT0cZC9fVyo7wbVNN7rg9a
