Now this is interesting. I support cops wearing body cameras, not just to keep cops minding their manners, but also to exonerate cops who face false allegations. Do I think the federal government should fund this? Im inclined to say no. A big part of the problem has been the federalization of local law enforcement (the 1033 program comes to mind, among others)...funding body cameras is simply another example of the feds subsidizing local agencies and extending its influence into local law enforcement. If your agency can afford MRAPs and grenade launchers, perhaps they can afford their own body cameras as well. Im sure many will take the position that federalization is a good thing...until the wrong political party gets in power and continues with its own version of federalization. Note that the agencies currently using body cameras did so on their own volition. Im willing to be convinced otherwise on the funding aspect, but for now, put me down as a no vote for federal funds on this.
