Now, this is interesting. Not posting this to endorse the position or tone of the article.... but because of this quote: The administration is also reportedly looking at shortening the time an immigrant is considered new, and therefore a removal priority. A recent immigrant would go from someone who entered in the last three years, to someone who entered in the last two weeks. Although I disagree as a matter of policy, the idea that an illegal has put down roots here after three years, and thus shouldn’t be deported, at least makes a certain kind of sense. But to exempt an illegal alien from deportation simply because he snuck in at least 15 days ago is surreal. It is interesting because as a LEGAL immigrant, you face for FIVE years the threat of being required to leave (or being deported) every time you have to renew your residents visa, and that fact entirely prevents a legal immigrant from putting down proper roots (which affects personal life, finding a home etc.) Once again the law favors illegal immigrants over legal immigrants. As a classical liberal, I want people to be able to move and work freely but there must be Rule of Law and equal protection.
