Nowra Thunder start the new year with a hard-earned win at the local Cambewarra swamp. A new year and new determined attitude. The Thunders skipper called on his players to turn the tight matches into wins. The responded to the call defeated Loose Screws by 7 runs in a soggy thriller. The skipper won the toss and elected to bat. The illustrious Brent Herdman was sent in to open with the Thunders master blaster Ben Pritchett. The pair put on 42 runs when Herdman retired after a superb innings. Pritchett batted well with the skipper until he was caught in the deep for 24. Daniel Toole found himself at the crease on a skidding wicket. Toole played some shots, but was run out in a mix up with the skipper for 5. Acclimatising for the upcoming world cup, Ragena Herath (Josh Murphy) was a late addition as the skipper sought the expertise of a specialist spinner. Murphy played some exceptional shots for his 2 not out, whilst the skipper finished out his innings on 25 not out. The Thunder finished with figures of 2/105. The skipper called for discipline and good areas with the ball to defend the meager total. Seamer, Aaron Driver opened the bowling spell with a tidy conceding only 3 runs. However, each member bowled well and with intent. The skipper forced a wicket early on and finished with figures of 1/10. Greenwell Point veteran Nigel Vormister entertained the crowd with a swing masterclass. Vormister completely bamboozled the opposition with a second over wicket maiden. Herath bowled well finding his world-class turn in the wrong-un. Herdman sent shivers into the tourists and asked questions with his disciplined line and length. Toole improved again unlucky to pick up a wicket forcing top edges from the batsman. Finally, its hard not to award Pritchett with Man of the Match. Prichetts keeping skills were both humorous and effective. The tourists required 7 runs to win in the final over; Pritchett lifted by the situation produced a match winning maiden. Well done team.
